Lingerie Size Guide

By the Holdure team · Updated · 2 min read

Lingerie sizes aren’t standardized: you may wear a different size in different brands. The most reliable approach is to take four measurements at home and compare them with the size chart on each product page.

What you need

  • A soft (cloth or flexible) tape measure.
  • Your thinnest bra, or none.
  • A mirror, so you can check the tape stays level.

How to measure

  1. Underbust (band): wrap the tape around your ribcage just under your breasts, no tighter than you’d want a bra band to feel.
  2. Bust: measure around your back and across the fullest part of your breasts.
  3. Waist: find the midpoint between your lowest rib and the top of your hip bone, and measure around there with the tape level and snug but not squeezing.
  4. Hips: measure around the widest part of your buttocks.

Write the numbers down in both inches and centimeters if you can; some brands use one, some the other.

Reading a brand’s size chart

  • Use the brand’s sizing, not your usual size. Each brand sizes differently; if a product page doesn’t show the measurements you need, contact us before you order.
  • Match the measurement that matters most for the piece: bust and underbust for bras and bralettes, waist and hips for panties and bottoms, and all of them for bodysuits.
  • Check the fabric and fit notes. Stretch content and the brand’s own notes (for example “fits true to size”) help when you’re between sizes.

Bra sizes: a note on the tape-measure method

The traditional method works out a cup size from the difference between your bust and band measurements. Researchers at the University of Portsmouth found this method tends to give too large a band and too small a cup compared with professional fit criteria, and the same group reports that more than 80% of women have been found wearing the wrong bra size. Use your measurements as a starting point, then check the fit.

Signs of a good fit

  • The band sits level and firm and doesn’t ride up at the back.
  • Your breasts are fully inside the cups, with no gaping or spilling over.
  • The center front lies flat against your body.
  • Any underwire follows the crease under your breast.
  • Most of the support comes from the band, not the straps.
