App-controlled toys: how they work
App-controlled toys connect to a phone over Bluetooth. Once paired, the brand’s app can control the vibration or movement, and many apps let a partner take over, either in the same room or from somewhere else over the internet.
What you’ll find here
- Wearables such as panty vibrators and insertable G-spot vibrators, including Lovense Lush models.
- Wands, bullets and rabbits with app control, for example the Lovense Domi 2.
- Toys for men: app-controlled strokers such as Lovense Max 2 and Calor, plus vibrating cock rings.
- Anal toys and prostate massagers with app control.
- Machines: app-controlled thrusting toys and sex machines.
- Accessories, such as the Lovense USB Bluetooth adapter for computers.
Things to check before you buy
- Which app. Each brand uses its own app. The product page names it; check that it supports your phone.
- Nearby vs long-distance control. Bluetooth on its own works within a short range. Long-distance play goes through the brand’s app and an internet connection on both phones.
- Remote included? Some toys also come with a physical remote or buttons, which is handy when you don’t want to use your phone.
- Battery life. Wearables are small, so run time varies. Brands list it in the specifications.
- Privacy settings. Apps may ask for an account and permissions. Read the brand’s privacy policy, decide what you share, and keep the app updated. Our app-controlled toys guide covers this in more detail.

Questions people ask
Can my partner control the toy from another city?
With many app-controlled toys, yes: both people install the brand’s app and connect over the internet. Check the product page to confirm long-distance control is supported.
Do I need the app to use the toy?
Not always. Many models also have buttons on the toy or a separate remote; the product page lists the control options.
Is my data private?
That depends on the brand’s app. Read its privacy policy and review the app’s permissions before you connect.
